Visiting Boston With The Family

The north east of the US is full of beautiful cities, and Boston is one of my favorites to visit with my family. Although it may be best known for its history and renowned universities, Boston is also a really fun city to visit with kids. These are some of my family’s top picks.

New England Aquarium

My toddler is obsessed with all things ocean and fish related, so if your children have similar interests then make sure you pay a visit to this great aquarium. Featuring the amazing Giant Ocean Tank full of scary sharks and coral reefs, performing sea lions and a touch tank where the little ones can get up close and personal with sea creatures, there’s a whole day’s worth of excitement to be had here.

Boston Common

This beautiful park is the perfect place to settle for a picnic and some time out from a busy day of sightseeing. Kids will be kept entertained by the constant flow of street performers and musicians that frequent the park.

Boston Children’s Museum

Full of interesting exhibitions for the whole family, this museum has a fun, interactive feel that will stimulate your kids’ imaginations and allow them to explore for hours.

Boston Duck Tour

If you’re visiting Boston in the spring or summer, don’t miss the Duck Tour. This tour of the city takes place on an amphibious vehicle that transforms from bus to boat, thrilling the little ones (and it’s pretty fun for adults too). Guided by knowledgeable “conDUCKtors”, you’ll learn all about Boston’s history and see sights from land and water.

Freedom Trail

My kids are still a little young for this one, but older children and adults definitely must include a walk along the Freedom Trail. This red brick path takes you along a tour of Boston’s most important landmarks and provides a fascinating insight into the history of the early days of the nation. If the whole trail seems overwhelming, you can pick and choose which sections to do and take breaks along the way. For a little added fun, pick one of the tours led by a guide dressed in character as a famous patriot from history.
