Facebook

I broke down and did it. I made a facebook fan page for O Momma Writes.

I resisted doing it for a long time because, I don’t know, it feels weird asking people to be my “fan.” Writing isn’t about that for me, if you like me great! But I write mostly for me and to capture what’s going on in my world and connect with others. And basically, I just like the way it feels to put thoughts into words.

However, I figured in the blogging world it is almost expected now-a-days and I have found that the blog facebook pages I personally follow are lots of fun and you get to know the writers and other readers even more. So, I made a page in hopes to get to know you readers more and be able to give mini-updates on our family and upcoming reviews/giveaways.  I know that with Jaxson due to arrive any time in the next few weeks people are curious how things are going, and especially once he arrives I may not have a whole lot of blogging time, so some times it’s just easier to make a quick facebook update than a whole blog posts.

There isn’t a whole lot over there right now, but that should change soon :-) See you over there!

Life is Busy and Wonderful

Holy Moly! Has it been 2.5 weeks already since I posted?  Going out of town through my life out of whack and I’m still trying to catch up with all the things I’ve missed (101 emails, anyone? or 100 blog posts to read? or 174 facebook updates?).

Today was the first day of classes and I can tell I’m going to have a challenging, work filled semester. Thankfully, it’s the last one, but bear with me as I post when I can between assignments and the 100′s of pages of readings on top of laundry, spending time with Savannah, planning her 3rd birthday party, and oh yeah…buying a house and moving all our stuff and making it look presentable. I’m stressed just thinking about all this and I have a feeling my blog posts will get pushed down to the bottom of the to-do list.

Hopefully coming this week:

-Christmas pictures

-Kaylee visit!

-My mommy getaway trip recap

-House news

In short: a lot has happened in the last 2.5 weeks so be ready for update overload!

Winter Design

Notice something different around here?  A new layout!  I winter-fied it up in here, cause I’m sure the snow flakes on my header are the only ones I’ll see this winter.  My last layout wasn’t functioning correctly between the different browsers so I was ready for a change.  I’m still trying to figure out what the odd symbols are up top on the main page. Any one know?  So far technical support has been useless on the issue.

Not long before Christmas is here!  It’s insane how fast the days have gone by. I’ve been enjoying visiting family, relaxing, and finding out that my grades came out pretty great (always a good thing).  However, I did figure out that my adviser did not know what she was talking about and I will not graduate early as we thought. Bummer. Apparently there is some rule that says you have to have 120 credit hours. So, that means I will have my major and minor completed by next December as planned…but I won’t have enough random credit hours to graduate so I get to waste another semester taking random classes.  Hm.  I’m choosing to see it as a blessing in disguise because now I have time to take it more easy, have time to take cool classes like graphic design and creative writing, and I can take less classes at one time therefore allowing me to be with Savannah a little more.

Anyways, I hope you are enjoying the holidays!

BACK!

The blog is back up and working correctly, hallejueah!  Can I tell you how frustrating it is to wake up to a broken blog and have 3 companies and many (many) support people tell me nothing useful what so ever?  Some even told me my blog looked absolutely fine! Finally a guy at Cpanel told me something to try and it worked. Turns out it was something very minor and very easy to fix, thank goodness. Who would have thought something so little could affect all my blogs? Oy. I’m glad that stress if over.

Anyways, what’s new around here? Well, Savannah is obsessed with:

-Baby Dolls

-Listening/Watching “That’s How You Know” from Enchanted. (Over, and over, and over…)

-Anything with princesses

-Slides

-Shoes

-Thomas the Tank Engine (Gotta throw off all the girly stuff, ya know)

Prime example:

Girly Girl

She is quite fun these days. I really think this age is a God-given in between resting stage between the tough infant year and the “terrible two’s” that will be arriving soon. Right now? She is a breathe of fresh air. Sleeping well, napping well, eating, makes up cute songs and games, laughs and smiles pretty much constantly, amazing us with all the words she is picking up.  Oh man, I love her. She is one wonderful little girl and right now she makes parenting look easy.  Thank you, God.

I mean, who couldn’t love and adore this little girl in all her girly ways?

Hallelujah!

It must be “let’s shine blessings on Leah” Day.

What else is good today, you ask?  I mean, what could top the fact that I will be graduating in a year! (Sorry, I’m still a bit excited).

Well, today a stumbled upon a blog designer who…get this…works for free. Yes, you read that right. Free. Gorgeous designs for free.  Of course, a donation is gladly accepted (and will be received) but that sure beats the expensive other designers I’ve looked at! I’m convinced that Ali at Mission Field Designs is my blogging angel. I’m so excited to get started and I just pray it works out this time. And, I wanted to share that good news with all of you who might feel the desire for a new blog look but can’t afford the high prices.

So, keep a look out for a new O Momma look, I can’t wait to see what we come up with!

I’m No Blog Designer

See, back in August I was super stoked to find out that I won a blog makeover…for free! I’ve always wanted a personalized blog look, not just a layout that I adapt myself, as I have here now, with easy changes like headers and link colors.  You see, this blog isn’t just a blog to me, it’s my cyber home.  It’s my personal newspaper, my memory book, my photography portfolio, my digital scrapbooking page, my personal social network to meet other cool people.  And so, this blog deserves more than just a white canvas with outdated pictures of our family (from WAY over a year ago!), it deserves to express who I am as a person and what this blog stands for.

But, alas, the free prize fell through some how. The designer kept pushing back getting things done and eventually just stopped emailing me all together with design ideas and productivity. I’m sad and mad and just totally bummed.  But, I thought, “Hey! I’m good at learning things and good with designing things so let’s stretch myself and try to do what I want myself.”  And, it started out well. I got a beautiful header (thanks to the help of Little Dreamer Designs) and got it in place of the layout I chose.  But…things have ended sourly and I’m stuck.  The background image is HUGE, I can’t get the sidebars to change correctly to show my matching sidebar images, I can’t get the white space to disappear behind the header, etc. The list goes on and I’m done. Frustrated. See my bad work here (thank goodness it’s just my sample blog!).

I would totally pay some one to do it, but it’s just not in our ’2 college student and a toddler’ budget right now (Most designs run over $60! I’ve even seen into the hundreds! Crazy).  And so, what I need help with is this: Either you (or some one you can refer me to) use your nifty blog skills to help me figure out this mess to make it look good. Or, out of the kindness of your blog designing heart, create my dream layout for me (what I have started is NOT it, just something I could live with).

Please? Help? Referrals? Any kindness in those hearts?

Sharing My Story

You know what’s cool?  The top post that gets the most views on this lovely blog of mine is my testimony.  Or, as my church likes to call it, my grace story.  Right now, at 823 views, it takes the number one spot and has been there since I posted it a few months ago. God certainly has shown His grace in my life and now is using it to share His love even more with others, what a blessing.  823 is a lot of people to share my faith and story with. Psh, and I thought I was shy? (Ok, maybe I still am)

Just another reason I love writing, it helps me share things I struggle to express in person.

Keep using my blog for Your glory, Lord!

Home Again

It’s with bittersweet sadness and joy for me to post that we’re home again. Mark and I had a wonderful visit with Breanna and her family, but man, we’re tired. Of course, I’ll post more about that later when I have more time, I have pictures uploaded, and I get settled in. We still have not seen Savannah yet as she is napping right now, but I’m sure she will be bouncing off the walls when she sees us again :-) We sure did miss her!

Also, while I was on vacation I apparently won a blog makeover from You, Me, and a Baby! My blog certainly needs a new look and a touch of “me” to it, so I’m thrilled that I won such a prize. It came at the perfect time, since that’s what I wanted for my birthday coming up :-) Any ideas for what I should do? I need help dreaming of what would be fitting for this little place of mine.

I’ll be back soon with a real update and pictures! Hope your weekend was as blessed as mine :-)
