Kylie has not seen any of the Disney Princess movies. She knows what a princess is but we don't let her watch that kind of useless television.
It portrays women in a ridiculous manner & doesn't teach her anything useful so we avoid it.

My biggest issue with Disney movies is the racism actually I have been blown away on numerous occasions by some of the things I've seen. Peter Pan uses the term "Squaw" which is what "Non-Native" people have used as a slang word for a female native women for ever. I know it's the biggest insult you can call a native women, it's not only racist but it's degrading and they say it numerous times in the Peter Pan movie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_at9dOElQk&feature=player_embedded

I wish I had time to write a longer comment but unfortunately Sunday is slipping into Monday quicker than I would like! I still have a few things left to do before I can get to sleep; however, I've been meaning to comment on this post since you posted it!

Have you heard of all the subliminal messages in several (maybe all?) of the Disney movies? Its insane! I watched a video on several of them back in high school in a psychology class. I couldn't believe it! I love Disney movies, I grew up with them and I'm sure my children will grow up watching them as well. But come on, you're making movies for CHILDREN and you have sexual references slipped in there?!

Here's one article, there are videos on youtube. There are many more than the ones this article mentions. I know there's something in "Alice in Wonderland" I just can't remember what it is!

My 4 daughters grew up enamored with all things Disney, especially the princesses. As a parent there is no need to spoil the fairy tale especially when they are young. My 2 oldest (17 & 19) are strong independent young women. My 17 year old is top ten in her class and is looking to major in Math or Engineering at a top university. She still loves Cinderella (her favorite) but has a great sense of self, and has great self esteem. My older daughter is very independant and is a great person. Most young girls will adapt as they get older without any interferance from anyone else. When they are little I say let them be young and let them explore all of their passions. Whether they be Princesses, pirates, or soccer. From, a loving Dad.

This post reminded me of a book, where the princesses *do* save themselves:

If you ever come across it, it's a fun read. :)
